We went to the Taste of Chicago on July 3rd, which happens to be the busiest day of the year for Chicago-area public transportation. The short spurts of rain weren’t too much of a bother, compared to the torrential rains on July 3rd of 1998 that lead to the destruction of my cell phone. The rain actually helped cool the weather (temporarily) and disperse the many other people visiting the Taste with Brad, Chris, and me.
Overall, the Taste was pretty good this year, although I am still disturbed by the presence of the McDonald’s booth. Yes, McDonald’s is a Chicago-area restaurant, originating in Des Plaines, but it is not something I would think of when I think of Chicago food. When there are great places like Lou Malnati’s, Portillo’s, and Harry Carry’s, why would anyone think of McDonald’s?
The fireworks were good, as well, although I was annoyed by the plethora of asses who just find a 2′x2′ square of green grass between a couple of blankets and think that it would be a great idea to just drop their shit there and sit down, all six or seven of them. Honestly, it’s like people have all just lost common courtesy lately. For instance, a family of eight just plopped down in front of us even though there was only a foot and a half between our blanket and the next group’s tarp. It was just ridiculous. And it’s not just that I hate asshole people’s kids, but these kids were annoying too.
Anyways, I’m done ranting. Yesterday was good, despite the annoyances.
