Well, I tried to post this morning, but I had a short power outage at my desk at work. So, I’ll post it now that I’m at home and Chris is watching School House Rock (she’s going to use it for the summer school classes she teaches). Almost five months ago, I did some web design work for Mike Wiggen, a meek little man married to a TA at work. His company, Telecommunications Equipment Corporation, was looking to get investors interested in it, so he needed a new web site since his original web site looked like garbage and hadn’t been updated for years.
I agreed to do some consulting for a moderate price, and he agreed on that price. After being given direction as to what his company desired (well, what he desired), I was able to come up with a design and start implementation of it. Using information that he wanted to appear on the site, I even added his content. I was paid for my initial work, and then instructed to do more work, including constructing contact forms, more graphics editing, and more content posting.
I did as requested, having felt that my initial payment was a sign that I would also be paid for the additional work which was requested. I couldn’t have been more wrong. After several attempts to contact Wiggen over the past four months (including an attempt to contact his wife via e-mail), I finally made the time to phone him.
Read what Wiggen told me on the forum.
