Yipee! After a long phone call to MicroCenter Chicago, I found out that there were no 40GB iPods shipped to them this week, as was previously expected. I decided to call the Westmont store to find out if they had any in stock. A couple of people told me they had one showing up in their computers, but needed to check with the floor to make sure it was still there. Once I finally got a hold of someone on the floor, he confirmed that there was in fact a sole 40GB iPod in stock.
I asked if they could put it aside until tomorrow, when I would be able to drive down there and purchase it. He said that they could do that tomorrow, if it was still in stock. That’s when I told him that the Chicago store told me they didn’t receive any 40GB iPods with their truck today. He told me that probably meant they wouldn’t have any on their shipment tomorrow, either. So, he talked to some managers and got an extended hold authorized for me. I have until 2pm tomorrow to pick up my new iPod at the Westmont store.
I must admit, I wasn’t too enthused by MicroCenter before, after I made my VAIO purchase way back in January. Their sub-par sales floor performance this last Monday and the phone service I received today at the Chicago store didn’t win me over, either. The Westmont store did a pretty good job of answering my question in a much more timely fashion than the Chicago store. I spent less time in total on the phone with the Westmont store than I did on hold with the Chicago store. Kudo’s to the Westmont store.
