She opined, that’s all

I asked for opinions at the end of my last post. The discussion got a little heated in there, I think, but things appear to be cooled down a bit now. Al posted to her blog apologizing unnecessarily for her comment that may have been interpreted as offensive. I say unnecessarily because, as she posted, "typed words on a blog or instant message sometimes carry a different tone" than the one intended.

On the other hand, Hersch was kind of harsh to George V, but perhaps justifiably so. We all have opinions, some stronger than others. Some are voiced louder than others, and some are more thought out than others. The funny thing about opinions is that they belong to people and, at least in the United States, we are still free voice them (unless it endangers the safety of others).

The votes are in

The votes finally showed up late last night on voterinfonet.com. I would have posted them last night, but I was tired (surprisingly). So, here are the results:

High School District 211 - Tax Increase
 Township   Votes   Yes
 No
   Votes   %   Votes   %
 BARRINGTON   21    12   57.14%   9   42.86%
 ELK GROVE   73    32   43.84%   41   56.16%
 PALATINE   19098    9991   52.31%   9107   47.69%
 SCHAUMBURG   18771    10799   57.53%   7972   42.47%
 WHEELING   12    6   50.00%   6   50.00%
Suburban Cook County Totals   Yes
 No
 37,975   20,840   54.88%   17,135   45.12%

The referendum passed by more than 3,700 votes. And as Superintendent Dr. Thornton has explained, the district will be no "land of milk and honey." More budget cuts are expected, however, they will not be as severe as the $18 million cuts that would have been enacted had the referendum not passed.

So, no pizza?

As you know, I visited the doctor today. Of course, since last night, no pains in the abs, so not much for the doc to find when she poked me in the abs. Curiously, this coincides with my not having breakfast this morning. Go figure.

The doctor had me get blood drawn, and I’m scheduled for a CT scan Friday. I’m supposed to continue my dairy-free diet to help figure out if I’ve got some new lactose intolerence. I’d hate to say it, but the pains have lessened greatly since I’ve cut down on the Frappuccinos and white mochas. I’d hate to have to cut those from my daily caffeine intake; they taste so good.

The last dissapointing thing was that I’ve gotta stick to a mostly liquid diet until Friday. I’ve gotta eat soups and stay away from solids. I was explicitly told not to have pizza (the combo of solidness and cheese is the opposite of what I’m supposed to eat this week) or steaks. If I have chicken or something like that, I need to pick at it rather than chomp off some large chunks of it. So, I guess I’ll see how Friday goes.

Another iTune

Before I post about a few things later today, I got another free iTune from a Mountain Dew bottle from the vending machine downstairs! Shoop! That’s 4 free iTunes from 5 bottles of Pepsi products. With 1 in 3 a winner, I’m doing far better than I should be :-) Yay for me!

iKOR…wtf?

I needed to shop for some computer parts for a new client. I did my usual shopping around on Price Watch and found what I was looking for at iKOR Design.com, based in Morton Grove. Since there was a bit of urgency with these parts, I went ahead and got the 2-day shipping option. I figured that the package would get shipped from Morton Grove, so it should be here Monday.

iKOR Shipment goes anywhere but here

I couldn’t have been more wrong if I tried. I just checked the tracking details (I love checking tracking details online), and for whatever reason, the package is in South Bend, Indiana! I know, South Bend isn’t very far from Chicago, but seriously, wtf would you send a package from Morton Grove to South Bend when its final destination is Schaumburg? It’s almost as if the merger of DHL and Airborne Express actually made both companies worse than before! Hopefully my parts will be here Tuesday, or I’m asking for a refund on shipping.

You may stop your laughing now

I’m sitting here working on "the project" when I see this headline on my Desktop Sidebar: Need to lose weight? Here’s a prescription for DDR. In West Virginia, DDR is being prescribed as part of a diet and excercise program for kids, and it’s working. It doesn’t surprise me one bit; I’d rather stomp to the beat in DDR than run on a treadmill any day. And if you’ve seen me play, I do work up to a good sweat doing it.

There was an article in the Daily Herald or Chicago Tribune last year stating similar beneficial results kids have experienced from playing DDR. Even with that article, people still laughed at the thought of me working out to DDR, so I understand if you let out another chuckle or two before you finish reading this. I actually haven’t broken out the DDR pads in a couple of weeks. I’m sure my visit to the doctor tomorrow may have me dancing Wednesday morning.

See, it hurts when I…

Much to my dismay, I have an appointment with a doctor tomorrow. I finally broke down and called the doctor this morning. When she checked on my last visit, the receptionist did not sound too happy about my calling for a semi-emergency appointment after not having been to the doctor in more than a year. She wasn’t able to fit me in to see my regular doctor, so I’m in to see his partner instead.

The receptionist also sort of reprimanded me and told me that when a stomach issue arises, I really shouldn’t wait to see a doctor because it could be something serious. What I wanted to tell her but didn’t was that I’ve had these little pains before, but they usually just go away. The odd thing this time is that it has been more than a week, and I’m still getting the little pains :-( We’ll see what the doctor has to say tomorrow.
