Patting myself on the back

I got a call from my doctor today. My cholesterol has dropped about 50 mg in the past three months! Although it is still a bit high, it is significantly closer to the normal range than it was before I started running and watching my diet. My triglyceride levels have also dropped to normal levels, thanks to cutting down on my bread and potato intake.

While I haven’t gone all Atkins (which is a stupid diet unless you have been specifically prescribed it by your doctor), I have stopped eating loaves of yummy carb goodness from places like Macaroni Grill, The Cheesecake Factory and Wildfire. The key has been to just keep my meals well-balanced. Who’d have thought that just keeping things balanced would make you not only feel better, but potentially extend your life, too? It’s been hard, but after seeing the results, I could see my self easily continuing this lifestyle and not minding (despite the griping I did before about living healthy and all).

The best part, I think, was that I have still eaten things I like. Last week I had Easy Cheese and Ritz crackers. This weekend I had Portillo’s beef sandwiches and lumpia. The first time I tried Richard Walker’s egg white omelets, I worried about the bland taste, but they’re pretty damn good. All I had to do was balance it out and accompany my diet with a little exercise (link in case you have no idea what exercise is).
