Friends of Mark, unite!

I just wanted to let everyone know that Grant and I will not be the only bloggers at ask-mark.com. Al will officially start blogging on the site when she gets to VA. You will be able to find her blog at ask-mark.com/axoprincess1. Also joining us is Jessi at ask-mark.com/jessipepsi. I’m excited to add my friends to the site, allowing them an alternative to the likes of LiveJournal and Xanga (not that there’s anything inherently wrong with either of these sites). In time additional domains may be purchased to give them an alternative to an ask-mark.com subdomain, but we’ll let them get a feel for blogging here and see what they want to do. So far, Grant has seemed pleased with his subdomain; maybe Al and Jessi will, too.

If anyone else would like to get their own blog at ask-mark.com, please let me know.

Texas not as white as before

According to this Yahoo! News Photo and this article attributed to the Associated Press, "Texas has become the fourth state to have a non-white majority population." However, look at the photo:

Texas now a majority-minority state

I count five states, including Texas, with a non-white majority: Hawaii, Maryland, New Mexico, California and Texas. The caption reports that Maryland is next up, along with Mississippi, Georgia, New York and Arizona, to reach a majority-minority status. I wonder what the number is for Maryland: 69.7% or ~40%?

Update: Read the comments to see my oversight.

Crazy New Yorkers

A fan reacts after falling from the upper deck onto the netting behind home plate.

Yankee Stadium Fan Plunges From Upper Deck

(un)Fortunately, he landed on netting. When he crawled up the netting toward his seat, he was arrested and taken to the hospital for observation.

Wacky news

Again, going along with Jacqui’s post about the strange happenings in the world, and found after reading Clint’s post about The Christian Paradox, I found this bit of wacky news items. You have such gems as (emphasis added):

A Florida man pleaded guilty to beating his wife to death because she wanted to cuddle after sex, and a Cambodian man found his mother after being separated from her for thirty years, then learned that she was also the mother of his wife.

And:

A Michigan woman beat her boyfriend with his own prosthetic leg, prairie dogs in Colorado were found to have the plague, and someone in South Africa was sodomizing corpses.

I mean, seriously, wow :-o

No way

I can’t believe that this could happen in Illinois. I just can’t believe it. Thanks to Jacqui for the link.

Peter Jennings Died

Peter Jennings lost his battle with lung cancer Sunday. He was 67. From the AP story at Yahoo!:

Peter Jennings, the suave, Canadian-born broadcaster who delivered the news to Americans each night in five separate decades, died Sunday. He was 67. Jennings, who announced in April that he had lung cancer, died at his New York home, ABC News President David Westin said late Sunday.

Netgear WPN824

So, I’ve been eyeing the Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824) for the past couple of weeks now, and I am really tempted to buy it. The thing that is making me want to buy it more and more is the Trade-Up to RangeMax Program, which means a free RangeMax adapter in exchange for any old wireless router. I just so happen to have a Netgear WGT624 Super G 108 Mbps Wireless Router now, which is valued much less than the RangeMax adapters. So, perhaps in the next week or two I’ll pick me up one of these bad boys and extend my wireless reach just that little bit more to ensure full coverage throughout the house.
