Spacetime

First off, I am ashamed to announce the birth of a Science category on my blog. I am ashamed because I should have had that category from the beginning. I’ll have to go through old posts and assign them to the Science category as necessary.

Now to the real reason for this post. On Opposable Thumbs, Ben Kuchera has a short write up about a cool project that helps to visualize spacetime. The project is called the Khronos Projector, and it is as cool as it sounds.

The project uses a projector, a camera, an IR emitter, and a computer to simulate spacetime on a screen and to show how spacetime can be curved and manipulated. The software on the computer calculates changes in depth on the screen, and changes the projected image at parts of the screen where the depth has changed. The projected image is changed such that pushing and pulling on the screen causes the image to go forward and backward in time. Like Ben wrote on OT, you’ve gotta see the movies to see just how cool it is.
