Let me intelligently design your knee…

I was about to go to sleep after having upgraded four of the five blogs hosted on ask-mark.com to WordPress 1.5.2, when I decided to give the del.icio.us/popular page a look. Of course, I found something of interest, and spent a little while reading it and the comments that followed. This page is a funny take on the intelligent design arguments offered by creationists. I can’t do it justice, so just go read it.

And just so that we’re clear, I’m not a believer in the creationist ideas of our universe’s existence. That’s not to say that I have no faith, it just isn’t in the notion that an old wise man just poofed our universe into existence 5000 years ago. My faith lies in the foundation built by years of scientific theory that offer some insight into our origins using evidence and reason. I just don’t buy into something simply because someone else tells me to. That I will leave to Tom Cruise and his fellow Scientologists.

Veronica Mars

Jessi brought Veronica Mars over yesterday, and we’ve already watched two episodes (we’re on the third episode now). I must say, it’s a pretty good show so far. I recall liking the concept when I first heard about the show. Of course, I don’t remember much about the show’s original airing. I didn’t even remember what station aired it (UPN, for those of you wondering).

Switch part 2

Insomnia has paid off yet again. I’ve been in bed for almost two hours now, and I have yet to fall asleep. Instead, I finished taking care of the blogs. So, my friends, your blogs should be back up and available for you. Let me know if you have any trouble.

Switch part 1

OK, the site’s been down for about a day now. Last night, I decided to make the switch to Dreamhost. Surprisingly, the DNS changes did not take very long to propagate through the part of the internet I use. I think my other web space became unreachable through the domain name within two hours.

UNICEF bombs the Smurfs

I saw this news photo on My Yahoo! today. UNICEF made an anti-war poster featuring the Smurfs village getting bombed.

UNICEF Bombs the Smurfs

The caption provided with the news photo reads:

In this photo of a poster provided by Unicef on Tuesday Oct. 11, 2005, the cartoon Smurfs and their village are seen being bombed by airplanes. The recent advertising campaign by Unicef, both in print and on television, is intended to teach schoolchildren about the horrors of war. The title in French at left bottom reads ‘Don’t let war deystroy the world of children’. (AP Photo/Unicef/IMPS/Peyo)

Unpossible!?

Not to worry, Jessi, someone else says "unpossible" is, um, possible:

That\'s UNPOSSIBLE!

I found this in the comments to a digg post about uncapping an iPod’s volume.

Country-holics anonymous

Oh no, they got to Jacqui, too! Welcome to the group. Our meetings go a little like this:

My name is Mark, and I’m a closet country fan.

I was hit a few years back. One day I was listening to the radio, and I realized that the song I was grooving to was, fundamentally, country. My first instinct was to stop dancing in the car and switch stations, then I realized that I had put in the Dixie Chicks’ Fly into the CD changer voluntarily.

I’m going to have to give a few of the artists mentioned by Greg a look:

Some good "Country Rock" aka Rockabilly artists are: Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, SHeDAISY, Rascal Flatts, Lonestar, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, and Gretchen Wilson (songs other than Redneck Woman, ofcourse, which was just the Ice Ice Baby of country.)

This all, of course, brings about the fact that I think I am one of the most rednecked Filipinos on earth. I like NASCAR, NHRA drag racing (the rice burners are nice, but they’re nothing like a top fuel funny car) and country music (among hip hop, classical and pop). I grew up thinking it was weird that I liked these things because, well, because they were redneck pastimes. Now, with everything so "crossed over," I’m not sure what to think anymore. I do know I won’t find myself caught line dancing at the local country bar(n), but that’s about all I’m sure of right now.
