The warehouse for Aardman Animations, the studio behind Wallace and Grommit claymation series, caught fire this morning, resulting in the loss of puppets, sets and other important history for the company. The company said that it lost props and sets from the first three W & G films, but not from the latest film, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. While it is a shame to have happened after a No. 1 opening weekend in the US for the latest film, other world news is sobering:
Wallace and Gromit’s creator, Nick Park, said the earthquake in South Asia helped put the loss into perspective.
"Even though it is a precious and nostalgic collection and valuable to the company, in light of other tragedies, today isn’t a big deal," he said.

/. reports that the British Library has an online gallery of books available that allows you to "flip through" books like Leonardo Da Vinci’s notebooks and Lewis Carroll’s Alice. Some are accompanied with audio tracks about the books, as well as the ability to magnify the pages, revealing all sorts of detail. I haven’t had much time to flip through the books just yet, but I think it is a great way to see books you might not otherwise get a chance to see first hand.

This amazing tidbit is one of the reasons why I love science. With our current understanding of physics, theoretically, the smallest measurable length has been found to be approximately Planck’s length, approximately 10-33 centimeters. Any machine that is designed to measure a smaller distance would either collapse under its own mass and create a black hole, or it would be so large that its parts could not work together because of the limitation of data moving at or below the speed of light. I find this to be such an interesting deduction.

Here is a great story about a guy and a "non-negotiable" check he cashed for $95,093.35. The check was from a piece of junk mail, but it fit all the criteria necessary to be considered a legal check that can be cashed. So, for giggles, he cashed the check in an ATM, and the funds were deposited in his account! Read the story for all the details, but be warned: it’s a long one. So long as I sit still, my headache goes away. That’s the only way I could have read through the whole thing.

From the company that brough you great software like Google Search, Gmail and Google Maps, now comes Google Reader! Now Google offers you a centralized place for you to view your favorite RSS feeds.
As usual, I am a bit skeptical of the new site, even if it is from Google. I have yet to find a real replacement for my sidebar news reader, which quietly refreshes my feeds every thirty minutes, scrolling through each site one by one. We’ll see if this can make me abandon the sidebar, or if will make a nice addition to it.

As I lay in bed, drinking water with my Tylenol, I read. I just read about a teaching document published by the Roman Catholic Church that instructs "that some parts of the Bible are not actually true." That is according to this article at Times Online.
