After about an hour or so of first-hand experience with roses, I realized that I never want to be a florist. What I previously thought were extremely high costs for flowers is completely justified. The effort that must go into making an arrangement asthetically pleasing must be tremendous. I know the efforts I went through tonight, and I can’t say that the arrangement I did was all that great. Maybe I will just have to wait and see how the roses open up.

What the hell are you talking about?
i second!
I bought some roses, and apparently you have to remove the outermost petals of the roses before arranging them. Then, you have to cut the stems at a diagonal under water to prevent air from entering the stems. Air prevents the stems from carrying water, oxygen and nutrients to the flower. And you also have to remove any leaves and other life branching out of the stem that may enter the water. Removing this helps prevent the water form turning yucky.
I did this to three dozen roses last night, and the roses still had thorns. Between the labor involved in the process and the thorns pricking me, I am convinced that I am not cut out to be a florist.
He had 3 dozen roses, cause he bought them for me. He’s a keeper.
