There is a group developing the LCARS interface made famous by Star Trek: TNG. I think that it is amazing that something a few designers came up with almost 15 years ago just as eye candy for a sci-fi show has the possibility of influencing the GUIs of computers in the future.
This is really ironic…I was just looking around the other day for a theme that was based on LCARS. I found a pretty cool site that is fairly similar to what it looks and acts like in the show… http://www.lcars.org.uk/
