wtf is that?

This morning I woke up to let Dixie out to do her business before the lawn guys came. As I went to open a window in the sunroom to watch her and give her some verbal warnings, I noticed this moth clutching the screen of one of the windows. It might have been two inches tall or so, but it freaked me out nonetheless. If you check out the photos on my Flickr, there is a ladybug visible on some of them to give the sense of scale.

Whatever it is, it seems to get along well with the ladybug.

I once saw a much bigger moth. It was when I worked at a fabric printing company. A moth about 4″ tall and 6″ wide flew into the heat press machine and came out melted to the fabric (he came out flatter than it went in). I guess it was a moth. It looked very similar to the one you pictured. But this one was really big. I haven’t seen one that large anywhere ever since. He ruined quite a few yards of fabric (his imprint took a quite a few turns to work out of the printing belt).

    Poor little bugger…

    (actually… big bugger!)
