So far, this has been a hell of a weekend. Friday night, the local gang (sorry, Dee, Jessi, Al, Lynn and Hersch) joined Chris and me at Biaggi’s for dinner. I had a great time there, and I thoroughly enjoyed the sherry tomato soup (my favorite there) and the lobster and shrimp stuffed trigger fish. After dinner, most of us headed back to the halfway house for a few games. I was only able to get through Trivial Pursuit before falling asleep on the floor.
Yesterday, Chris took me shopping for my birthday gift. Between all of the millions of things I have mentioned wanting for my birthday, we agreed it would be best to just find something together. We headed to Sears to check out some power tools. While I’ve been dreaming about what to do for the new look of the living room and dining room, I wasn’t looking forward to all of the manual labor.
It didn’t take us long to browse through the Craftsman tools. We went in knowing we wanted a miter saw, and we probably wanted to pick up a nail gun, too. We weren’t sure what kind of nail gun to get, nor what kind of nails to use. We got some help from a sales associate who saw us looking a bit puzzled. He helped us decide on a 7-1/4 inch miter saw and an air compressor with a staple/nail gun. Both tools look like good beginner tools that we could easily upgrade from in the future. The best part of the shopping trip is that the tools were both on sale! w00t! These should help us (me) get all of the moulding in place rather quickly.
After leaving Sears, we stopped by the in-laws to show them the new tools. Then we went to Menards and Home Depot to pick up paint chips. Hopefully by next week we’ll know how we want to paint the main level. Then we can start packing up the stuff in the china cabinet and moving some of the furniture around. That’s where I know we’ll be able to use the extra muscle that has been offered.
For dinner, Chris and I went to Entourage. Entourage had a great atmosphere, but I noticed that their waitstaff consisted of an all-star co-ed basketball team. I think the shortest waiter was 6′6"! They had a great selection of steaks and seafood; I chose the latter. For dessert, I had the hazelnut crème brulée, which was accompanied by a hazelnut gelato and poached pear. Dinner was awesome!
Now, I sit here in Joe and Cristina’s living room watching the first Bears Super Bowl since 1986, thoroughly disgusted by the Bears’ performace. My birthday weekend was going great until the middle of the second quarter. I guess I’ll watch the remaining two minutes and see if they redeem themselves.
Oooooh!! Miter saws are awesome!!
No, seriously, I’ve used them multiple times, and they’re great!
Why is everyone laughing at me?
I’m not laughing, but I almost forgot that Chris bought me Magnetix, too. She said with all the grown up toys I’m getting, I should get some fun toys, too. I love my wife
Re: Magnetix, you’re required to do the verywhite gesture that those two children do in the promo video, when they’ve completed their toy creations, every single time that you play with this stuff.
Someone’s going to have to show me how to do that gesture; I’m not white enough to get it right on the first try.
I think it’s a gesture that can only be formulated by committee - no one’s that white.
Might I remind you of Carlton on “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”? He might be “that white.”
