OMG! I have been trying to get past the third challenge on the stupid free Java golf game on my RAZR since we purchased our phones in November. The third challenge is to use a punch shot to get out of a bunker and onto a green. I had tried every combination of clubs and swings, and despite all of them getting on the green, I always failed the challenge.
I finally came up with just the right keywords for Google to get me a page that tells me how to do it: java golf challenge three punch shot. The first hit tells me to press ‘0′ to select between a punch shot, a chip shot and a normal shot. The punch and chip shots are indicated by a ‘P’ and ‘C’ on the left side of the screen. Nowhere in the help or anything does it tell me to press ‘0′ to achieve this goal. How am I supposed to figure out that ‘0′ does anything?
However I was supposed to figure it out, I am glad that NutPeanut posted the tip way back in 2005 for me to find in 2007. Now, I can finally take my tired self up to bed.
SHEESH! I found this page using punch shot challenge in a google search and I am GLAD that it’s posted. I had the same problem.. Love the game, hated the challenge. Despite using every club and even getting it IN the hole from the bunker I would still fail. By definition a punch shot is simply using a low loft club to keep the ball low. Even if you do that, you will fail unless you tell the game that this is a punch shot. (duh).

how do you make a hook shot around the trees? im having trouble on challenge 8
I’m not even that far yet. In frustration over Challenge 3, I bought Lumines for my phone. I’ll post an answer if I get to Challenge 8.
@paulo: I used an 8 iron, and I aimed just to the right of the green. Then I timed my swing using the two tick marks. I start my back swing and stop at the tick mark at the top of the arc. Going forward I stop at the first tick mark, the one on the left of the arc. That gets me a slight hook, but also lands me on the green. I hope that helps.
The next challenge is a 55 foot putt, and that should be easy enough. Good luck!
Man, you are amazing!!!! I learned everything about Punch SHot!!!! and still did not get over it until I found you!!!!! My days in the bathroom will finally be over chalenge 3 !!! YOU are my HERO!!!
I have completed all competitions, bought everything, even carded a 20 under 52 on a whole Course practice but till today have never been ablr to figure out challenge #3. Thanks now I kinda feel stupid it was so easy.
