I awoke this morning to the sound of helicopters. Usually, when helicopters pass over Schaumburg, they continue to fly toward their destination, rarely pausing to hover overhead. Not today. Apparently a woman died after her car crashed into a tree on Weathersfield Way, between Plum Grove Road and Summit Drive. This attracted the attention of the local news choppers, bringing no less than three of them over the center of Schaumburg. As of 11 this morning, the identity of the driver had not yet been released.

Here’s yet another post with video from YouTube. It is the first trailer for John Rambo, the fourth in the Rambo series. I don’t remember anything from the previous Rambo series except that Stallone played a bad ass military-type character named Rambo. I’m going to have to put the trilogy on my Netflix.com queue to get myself up to speed before this one comes out in May, when it goes up against the fourth installment of Indiana Jones.
Before watching the trailer, please note that it is a bit graphic in violence, and that it probably would not receive a G rating from the MPAA:
In Florida, a teenager drove a Mitsubishi Lancer through a shopping mall entrance, and then just missed the escalater as he dropped the car off of the second floor twenty-five feet onto the first floor. And it was all caught on video by the security cameras:
That makes me think of how difficult it would be to drive through Woodfield.
I’m home for lunch. I was checking Google Reader and saw this video on YouTube’s Most Viewed feed:
The quality of the video isn’t that great, and you may experience some sync issues between the video and audio streams, but the point still comes across well: Bobby McFerrin can do some strange things with his voice.
Alan Chavez was charged with stealing $250k of Skittles. There were twenty-eight pallets of Skittles in the truck he stole, but seven are still missing.
I don’t even know what I would do with a single pallet of Skittles, let alone seven!
NBC today released its fall schedule to advertisers. While disappointing that Studio 60 won’t be returning, it wasn’t surprising. It’s also good that I won’t have to watch the show get progressively worse each week.
Returning for another season are My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, and Scrubs. Heroes is reportedly returning with a spin off called Heroes: Origins in which a new character will be introduced with each episode. These new characters will be selected by viewers to join Heroes in the following season. Together, the two Heroes series will have 30 episodes next season.
I’m waiting for the other networks to announce their schedules. Hopefully HIMYM will be among CBS’s shows for next season.
Science News Online has an article about the mathematical patterns that can be found in plant life. Most notable is the appearance of the golden angle (approximately 137.5°) and the Fibonacci sequence (the numbers 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, …; the addition of the last two numbers produces the next number).
The article does a pretty good job explaining the findings that someone who has had high school geometry should be able to understand it. Hell, you might not even need that much math. Then again, if you haven’t had that much math in school, you probably aren’t going to be interested in the article.
