Anniversary

Behind the Emerald CurtainYesterday Chris and I celebrated our third anniversary. I took the afternoon off to take her downtown to Behind the Emerald Curtain, a behind-the-scenes look at Wicked. We were able to take a close look at several costumes and masks, as well as find out a little more about the production’s and the theatre’s history.

After the tour, we headed to Scoozi! for a nice quiet dinner for two. Chris had the Gnocchi Bolognese and I had the Prosciutto and Onion Ravioli. Both dishes were quite delicious, and just the right portions, too. After dinner, the valet brought me the correct car this time, instead of a $50k upgrade, and we were off to check out the lake.

Unfortunately, there were a couple of things going on in Grant Park, so we couldn’t find any parking anywhere and just headed back out to the ‘burbs. We turned in early because we both had to be at work early this morning. We’re both looking forward to Saturday, when we actually get to see Wicked for the third time. Afterwards, we’ll be dining at 312 Chicago.

Mission: Operation Iraqi Free Gun

Here is a tongue in cheek letter to President Bush that suggests a way to help in Iraq. I won’t spoil it any more than the title does, so go ahead and read it over at McSweeney’s Internet Tendency (no apparent relation to David McSweeney, the ultra-conservative that ran against Melissa Bean last year).

Minnesota trip part 1

Now that I’ve finally figured out how to get onto the wireless network in our hotel (thanks, Lynn, Jamie and Chris), I can post a little update about our trip. Yesterday, during our six hour drive up to Northfield, Minnesota, we had quite a few great vistas consisting of the Wisconsin and Minnesota countryside (is that even the right term?). Unfortunately, I wasn’t comfortable stopping to take photos of them, but we might be able to do that on the way back to Illinois.

What we were able to do is to stop by LaCrosse before crossing into Minnesota. Luckily, Riverfest is being held this weekend, and we stopped by that and took in the view of the Mississippi River. I am in the process of uploading photos to Flickr from yesterday. So, check them out if you’re in my friends and/or family list.

I’ll try to write more tomorrow, but for now I have to get ready for the wedding.

Lake disappearance solved

Scientists (that’s what the CNN article calls them) have solved the mystery of the missing Chilean lake I posted about two weeks ago:

A buildup of water opened a crack in an ice wall along one side of the lake.

Water flowed through the crack into a nearby fjord and from there into the sea, leaving behind a dry lake-bed littered with icebergs, scientists told Chilean state television Tuesday.

CNN reported that Andres Rivera, a glacier expert who lead the team of scientists investigating the missing lake, said that the lake’s disappearance was evidence of global warming.

I don’t know if "global warming" was the phrase Rivera used, or if that is what the reporter chose. At any rate, it is my understanding that the currently accepted theory in the scientific community is not that we are undergoing global warming, but rather global climate change. I know I am just being picky, but I wish the correct terminology was used in scientific articles.

Daft Punk and groovy dancing girl

I haven’t been writing a lot of what I might consider substantive posts in recent weeks. I guess I’ve just been tired from staying up too late and then getting up early for work. Also, I haven’t been turning the laptop on at home very much lately. At any rate, here is yet another meaningless, but fun, post. There was a video on BoreMe titled "Groovy dancing girl" that showed up on del.icio.us. The video is a well edited footage of a girl dancing to Daft Punk’s Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.

I didn’t like the presentation at BoreMe, so I found the video on YouTube. Here it is for you enjoyment:

After having watched this video and the video that Scott posted, I think I’m going to have to get this catchy song. I don’t care if it’s super repetitive, I like Daft Punk.
