I took some time off on Friday to clean the house more after three long weeks of work getting things prepped for the new year. The first thing I attacked was finding all of the stuff that used to reside in our old China cabinet. I was able to find all of the boxes of carefully wrapped glass, and I brought that down to the dining room. Chris and I put all of that stuff away Saturday during our second surge of cleaning.
The second thing I attacked on Friday was the garage. It has been a very long summer trying to clean out all of the old stuff in our garage. We’re almost done, and that fact is emphasized by this: both of our cars can be parked in the garage! The old China cabinet now resides where the even older China cabinet used to be. The garbage cans have found a home between the cars and the railing around the stairs. We even hung the old dartboard next to the freezer.
I said that we are almost finished because there are still a few things that need to be done. For starters, I need to clean out the old refrigerator and freezer, as well as defrost the large freezer. Then I have to figure out what to do about all of the wood. We have old closet doors, an IKEA cabinet that was never built, and our leftover materials from the baseboards and crown molding. Lastly, we need to do some final organization of our stuff. Yes, all of it has a place right now lining the walls of the garage, but I am sure there must be a better way to store everything. I may call on someone with an organization fetish to help out with that.
Back to inside the house, Chris did a great job clearing out the sun room. I helped out by pouring out all of the old beer bottles, most of which were pretty skunky. Perhaps next weekend I will drain the hot tub. I’m not sure if I’ll refill it. I do know that I’ll have to buy new filters before I can; we’re still using the original filters.
Another thing we have to investigate is a replacement vacuum cleaning. All of a sudden our vacuum is having problems sucking up all of Dixie’s hair. It may need a new air filter, so I will have to find out what I need to replace that.
We are almost to the point where we feel like we’re actually living in our house. There are just a few more things on our list, and this will finally be our home. I can’t wait!
