Sometimes I hate being such an Apple fanboi, but I have to give it to Steve Jobs. He’s done it again. Work has been keeping me quite busy, so I am only finally getting to watch the Keynote from today’s Apple Special Event.
I’m almost a third of the way through the Quicktime video, and Steve just blew my mind when he announced the 160GB iPod classic for $349. I mean, damn! Its physical dimensions are even smaller than the original iPod! With that 160GB iPod, I can have all of the music currently on my various hard drives, and still have room to spare on the iPod.
So, my mind was blown with the 160GB iPod classic. How can I even describe what is happening to my mind now that Steve is finally getting to the iPod touch.
Besides the limited storage capacity, what’s not to love about the iPod touch? You get multi-touch interface, just like the iPhone. You get photos, video playback and Cover Flow. You get 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Safari for browsing the web and connecting to countless hotspots around the world. All of that, and you don’t have to deal with a pesky contract with AT&T or trying to unlock your iPhone.
Things get better, too. With the Wi-Fi connection, you can shop on the new iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. And with Apple’s new partnership with Starbucks, you can even buy the music that is playing in the Starbucks you’re sitting in. And you don’t even need to be a hotspot subscriber to shop the Wi-Fi Music Store.
Now my problem is that I shouldn’t buy any of these great toys innovations. However, I will probably buy one (or at least beg for one for the New Year round of gifts). The question is which one should I buy (or beg for)? Thankfully, Apple has provided a great summary of the iPod line with Which iPod are you?
