The other day, Chris wanted to play some video games. We played a little bit of Super Mario Bros. on the Wii, and then I struggled to connect to the Wii Shopping Channel to get other games. Later that night, I finally did get on the Shopping Channel, and I downloaded SimCity, Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3, Metroid and Excitebike. The Wii Virtual Console is great for reliving memories of 8-bit games past. The retro love doesn’t stop there. Cal State’s marching band performed a halftime show celebrating classic video games. You can watch a video of the performance at Gizmodo.

I had a similar experience on the 360 the other day. I got some old school Contra, Paperboy, and a few other classic arcade games off of the 360 Marketplace.
And that marching band performance is outstanding. I actually followed a link a few days ago to that video on youtube from the “Best Week Ever” website. I was at that website because the show had been talking about some video that was making the rounds on the web and was disgusting or something, and supposedly it was all over the place, and people’s recorded reactions to watching this graphic video were on youtube, but Cristina and I had not heard of it, so we went to the website to try and figure it out. In the end we got sidetracked by the Cal marching band.
I just watched the Golden Bears’ marching band performance and just about crapped my pants. That was amazing!
