They hit my mailbox

About forty minutes ago, I heard this thump sound from outside. Dixie started barking and ran for the window to see what was going on. I thought nothing of it at first, thinking that perhaps it was just some snow and ice falling from the roof. While I was sitting in the dining room, I could not see out the front window because of the glare from the indoor lights. When Dixie continued to bark, I went to the window to check things out.

I didn’t see anything abnormal in front of the house, but then I looked left and saw that my neighbor’s mailbox was knocked off the post. I looked across the street, and those two mailboxes appeared fine. I decided to get my coat on and head outside to take a closer look at our mailbox. It was definitely knocked loose, although just how badly it was damaged I won’t figure out until the morning. Looking down the street, there was at least one more mailbox that I could see that was damaged.

I decided to take the car out and drive around the neighborhood to investigate. I wasn’t alone in doing this, as I saw my neighbor two doors down slowly patrolling the block. When I stopped next to him, he said that he didn’t see what happened, but his son saw a black truck drive by and hit the mailbox. As I drove around, I saw that only the mailboxes on my block were damaged. The kids responsible for this did not touch the mailboxes across the street, nor did they continue to hit mailboxes in the next neighborhood. Unfortunately, in my driving around I was unable to find a black truck that I was willing to investigate. I did see a black pickup on Beech just sitting idle in a cul de sac, but I wasn’t about to just turn around and ask the driver any questions.

Upon returning home, I am now sitting in the dark with my laptop screen’s brightness turned all the way down as I watch out the window hoping to catch the perpetrators drive by to check out the results of their "work." I’m not sure what I’ll do if I catch them. At the very least I will try to get a license plate number. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m sure I did stupid things as a kid, but I never went so far as to destroy property. Stupid kids these days…

Ok need I remind you it was just last friday we were talking about that thing we did at the mall that one time. Yes I count you as part of that destructive event. Also I believe you were my accomplice in trying to put a 6 foot tall paper mache “unit” on our high school. Do you need me to continue with stories of tom foolery of our youth?
