A little spring cleaning

Perhaps with the thought of putting off a few things that I have to do, I decided to rearrange a few things around the house. I moved around the garbage cans, some of the Christmas boxes and a few other things. I also made a little more room on the side of the driveway, moving a large object that hasn’t been used for several years.

The basketball hoop will hopefully be gone by tomorrow afternoon. I popped out the cap and flipped it over to drain the water from the base. The water came out surprisingly clear, but the base left a huge rectangle of moist dirt that hasn’t seen sunlight in a long time. I’m hoping that the grass will grow without too much fussing over it. I moved the hoop over by the curb, waiting for pickup next to the garbage cans and recycling bin. I don’t have high hopes that it will get picked up by the garbage men, but I think there might be enough of a draw for the salvagers to pick it up. Getting rid of the hoop should make it easier to park cars on the driveway, not having to worry whether the door closest to the hoop could be opened.

I moved the garbage cans from the garage so that they will sit just outside of the back door to the garage. There’s a little brick area where I’m sure we used to store garbage cans before, so I thought I’d give it a try again. When I brought the garbage cans to the curb today, the incline on the side of the garage made the cans tilt to the side as I pulled them. The garbage this week isn’t as dense as usual, so I am hoping that the heavier cans in the future will make it easier. If that continues to be a problem, I may have to figure out another solution.

Moving the garbage cans gives me roughly two more feet of depth to the right side of the garage, while still allowing someone to walk to the refrigerator. Unfortunately, that is the only place where I was able to get more space for the larger car now residing in the garage. When I brought the Christmas boxes out from the living room and to the garage, I may have lost a few inches on the passenger side of the car. I will have to see if there is another place I can put the boxes that will keep them accessible, but out of the way. I think they might fit well next to the refrigerator, but I’ll have to check it out to make sure.

Believe it or not, all of this is a precursor to another major cleaning that will occur later this year. I’m going to try to expunge a lot of crap from my home office. I have to remove one old desk and several storage containers, replacing them with a four-drawer file cabinet. We’ll have to see how well that works out.

Anyways, I have to go tend to my steak. It’s been resting after searing it in a pan on the stove and cooking for a few minutes more on each side (I was lazy and didn’t want to get the grill ready and clean it up afterwards).
