The family jewels

In Chris’s absence tonight, I was planning on catching up on some more network television. That didn’t happen, because I discovered Gene Simmons Family Jewels on A&E (no joke). I know the show has been on for a while (this is the third season, in fact), but this is the first time I bothered to watch it. I was able to catch the three latest episodes, and I really enjoyed them.

Nintendo: You’re killing me!

As some of you may know, when I went on vacation in Seattle, I played a lot of Rock Band on Hersch’s XBox 360. Just yesterday it was officially announced that Rock Band will be coming to the Wii on June 22. Unfortunately, it will lack a lot of the cool features of the next-gen versions, such as online play, downloadable content and customizable characters. The only plus is that there are five tracks exclusive to the Wii. Personally, I would rather have any one of the other missing features than exclusive songs.

It looks like Electronic Arts is blaming the missing features on Nintendo. A Rock Band spokesperson was quoted as saying, "When developing ‘Rock Band’ for the Wii platform, we focused on making the core gameplay experience as solid and enjoyable as possible…Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized." You know, it’s great that the core gameplay experience will be solid, but I’d like to be able to play online and download new songs. You would think that MTV and Harmonix would like to stick it to Activision and Red Octane by making Rock Band for Wii an out-of-the-box kick-ass experience. Instead, they make it a Guitar-Hero-III-with-drums-and-mic-ho-hum experience. Boo.

Top Chef, or people who ruined pizza

After we got back from dinner at Stumbling Goat Bistro, we set ourselves up to watch the season premiere of Bravo’s Top Chef. This season takes place in Chicago. After the chefs fly in, they all meet at Pizzeria Uno and chow down on deep dish pizza and beer, a classic combo. The first quickfire challenge has the chefs making a signature deep dish pizza.

The chefs bring their pizzas to a house to be judged by Rocco Dispirito. As they bring out their slices, I am just disgusted by each creation. I can’t believe these guys served the garbage that they did. You can see for yourself just how ugly, and likely how distasteful, the slices were.

With what I saw of the last season of Top Chef, and despite what I saw tonight, I think this could be another Bravo show to suck up my time each week.

A few things

Here are just a few things for tonight:

  • I have only been using twitter for a few weeks, but I am to the point where twitter is on the fritz again and I don’t know what to do. It’s the strangest feeling.
  • I ordered that Garmin StreetPilot c550 from Buy.com the other day, but they haven’t shipped it yet. I’m going to be leaving for Seattle next Friday, and I’m worried it might not get here in time. Update: According to FedEx, it should arrive on Tuesday.
  • Miro has been acting up a lot lately, unexpectedly skipping to the next video, only playing audio for some video, and doing similarly bothersome things. I’m starting to wonder if I should check iTunes for some of the video podcasts I subscribe to in Miro.
  • I really want a Drobo, but I can’t justify spending almost $700 for the storage robot and NAS accessory. Even with the $50 off with the “CALI” coupon code, it’s still too expensive for a system that does not come with any disks.
  • I haven’t watched tonight’s episode of Lost. My internet just got slow because Miro kicked in. I’ll have to try to watch that tomorrow before I see the other cast of Evita at HEHS. Update: I did watch Lost, and it was pretty good, but not my favorite. They are starting to tread in waters that may be too far off shore to get back.

That’s pretty much it for now. I’m going to try to get some sleep. I’ll be hitting the ICE conference in the morning, checking out what’s new on the educational technology front.

Knight Rider

Knight RiderNBC has done a great job with the new Knight Rider. The show is an action-packed television series, with a fairly good story to accompany it. The first episode does a great job of tying the old series into the new one, complete with a Hasselhoff guest appearance. Check out the reason for the Hoff’s appearance after the jump.

F Planet Earth

I got home from the Chicago Auto Show about a half hour ago. I went and said hi to Chris, and now I’m watching the latest episode of Diggnation. That is when I saw this video (NSFW - language):

Hiliarious! It’s exactly what I think when I watch some of the Planet Earth series. Like so many other who have seen this video, I think to myself, "Why didn’t I think to make a video like that?"

Frozen

Improv Everywhere has a top video on YouTube again. This video shows their Frozen Grand Central mission, which took place in February 2007, but it appears to only have been posted recently. More than 200 people just stopped in their tracks in the middle of Grand Central Station at the same time, confusing the other commuters:
