On Friday, Jacob, Darya, Steve, and I went to Sagano, an area in Kyoto that is supposed to have an old school locomotive, like with steam and the like. It’s called the “Sagano Romantic Train Ride”.
I protested waking up that morning, however. Upon returning from my shower, which I had hoped would help in the whole awake thing, I grumbled, “Best. Train ride. Ever.” As in this misadventure had better not suck.
It was actually pretty cool. There were some hitches along the way, as I was on a time constraint due to planning to meet with Yuko and Mika later that afternoon. We had a lot of time to kill before the actual train ride, so the four of us wandered around the area. We blew time and money trying to win a Nintendo DS Lite from one of the prize machines, and ate lunch at this charming little place called Cafe Horizon, which was run by these two lovely Japanese ladies.
The train ride itself was pretty fascinating. It runs through the valley of Arashiyama and along the Oi River. It was an incredibly attractive place to see and it inspired hope of hiking later.
Was it the best train ride ever? Well, I dunno about that, but it was definitely worth the trip.
