The best thing happened to me on Wednesday before work — I got a free Pepsi!!
I was way stoked about it. I went to one of the few known vending machines that has regular Pepsi. After I made my selection, the machine did this kind of slot machine thing where a bunch of numbers scroll down. My numbers came up as 0000. Then it started flashing things and made some kind of announcement. I was a bit puzzled. At first, I thought it would give me my money back, so I pushed the “money return” thing. Nothing happened.Then I noticed that all the beverages were lit up again so I took a stab in the dark and selected Pepsi.
WOO!!! FREE PEPSI!!!
I was quite happy on my way to work.
I put the Pepsi in the fridge for safe keeping.
After work, when I was in the elevator almost to the bottom floor, I realized I’d forgotten it. “Drat,” I said aloud.
One of the other chaps in the lift asked me what was wrong. “I forgot something.”
It was then that his girlfriend also realized she forgot something. So when we got to the bottom floor, we all three rode the elevator back up. We happened to catch the same elevator again going down, and the fellow noticed what I was holding. “You went all the way back up for a cola?”
“Not just any cola, a free cola! And a Pepsi!”
He was mildly amused by the fact that I was so excited about my can of Pepsi, and the fact that I went on to tell him there were two vending machines by my house that sell them for 100 yen.
It’s only taken me about two years, but I am slowly but surely discovering all the Pepsi vending machines in Osaka. So far, I’ve acquired Pepsi from six of them. Sure, doesn’t sound all that amazing to you blokes back home, but if you visited Japan, you’d understand how hard it really is.
Hee… A Pepsi for a Pepsi. :p Free stuff rocks!
Yoss and I were spoiled by visiting you after you’d plotted out where vending machine stuff was. And also by those gi-frickin’-normous water and uh.. Aqua? bottles. I mean, huge beverages there… I did not fear for my liquid needs not being met. ;p
