I think technically it was an impromptu grilling party, but that doesn’t have as nice of a ring as “impromptu barbecue”. Is it still technically a barbecue if there is no barbecue sauce used?
It was Memorial Day Weekend and that meant many folk had Monday off, which meant Sunday was fair game for fun and games. For the most part, I spent the day watching more BSG and writing the previous post, but eventually, texts went out to the folk and a plan was set in motion.
Well…it was kind of a plan. Really all we had was that we would convene at the Halfway House.
It was a nice day out again, so I decided to make the most of it and walk. Rich laughed at me and said he’d beat me there. For some reason I doubted that, but I was totally wrong ‘cuz as I turned onto Scully, I saw Rich, Mark, and Dixie through the backyard neighbor’s yard. Since I knew Dixie was out, I decided to go into the house through the sun room. Dixie seemed happy to see me, but really, I coulda been a stranger and Dixie probably would have been happy to see me.
I can’t say we did a whole lot whilst we were waiting for other folk to join us. Rich and I went and played a little Rock Band with Mark, and when Yoss Mike and Toni arrived, I went back up and read a little bit with Toni and Chris. At one point, Yoss Mike came up to see what we were up to and we were all pretty absorbed in whatever book or magazine was in our hands. Rich came up not long after Yoss Mike returned to the basement and joined us for a bit.
It was eventually decided that we should totally have an impromptu cook out. It was a great day for one, too. Mark and Yoss Mike ended up going to Dominick’s to purchase the dead animal we would set on fire whilst the rest of us stayed about the Halfway House. They ended up returning much sooner than I expected them to.
While Mark was grilling, Toni, VoW, and I amused ourselves with a game of Settlers. It’d been a really long time since we played the original version and not the expanded one. It was a long game, but I didn’t think it was a bad one ‘cuz we all three seemed content being distracted by food and peoples and the like. I was amazed we even managed to finish, but then Toni totally won.
One of these days, I’ll win Settlers. Then I’m totally getting ice cream.
There were many happy foods to be eaten; I was actually surprised at the amount. I think I ate too much, but it was all so good! And come on, it was dead animal! Who doesn’t like dead animal?
After dinner, we played a game of Shadows Over Camelot. I think I’m about ready to play with the traitor in our next game. I don’t like the idea of it, but I’ll do it, me thinks. Our gang was lucky again in that we were able to win.
It was a really fun night. I’m glad we invaded and got dead animal out of it. ![]()
