Spoiler Warning: This post may contain SPOILERS for Season 1 of Gossip Girl in case you haven’t caught up.
*****
I usually don’t get sucked into true teen dramas. It’s hard to call Buffy and Veronica Mars your average teen drama, for one of ‘em there was the fantasy aspect of vampires, and the other…well, how many private investigators did you know in high school?
I just finished watching Gossip Girl Season 1 (yes, you read that correctly, Gossip Girl) and I’m starting to remember why it is I don’t like watching teen dramas — I find the drama exhausting.
I think Dan was being incredibly stupid. But it wouldn’t be a drama without stupidity.
And even though I usually can’t tolerate such stupidity, you better believe I want to watch the season 2 premiere (I really hope Yoss Mike didn’t delete it…).
For the record, I don’t think this is a series I would own. Maybe if I got to be like super rich, but it’s entertaining and I think it’s done pretty well. It has its ridiculous moments, and then it has fantastic moments that I quite enjoy. The show is produced by Josh Schwartz, who also does Chuck; and one of the series writers has worked on Gilmore Girls.
I have my reservations about it, like what the hell are they gonna do after everyone graduates? Are they all gonna conveniently stay in New York City or what? But I’m willing to stick with it for a little bit. I’ll probably lose interest in the sophomore season, like I have with so many other shows, but I at least very much enjoyed the first season.
And come on, Kristen Bell is narrating again. How much fun is that?

Sometimes I feel like the worst librarian ever for watching that show and not even having read the books!
After seeing commercials for that Secret Life of the American Teenager and the new 90210, I am pretty sure there is just something that, like Buffy and Gilmore Girls, sets it apart from other apart from other teen dramas. It might be the writing, acting, directing, production values, or some combination. So I think you are being too hard on yourself.
Also, I think you are being too hard on Dan. If you look at the Georgina episodes from his perspective, all the lying and such would have been a bit much to take.
Yeah, I agree on being too hard on Dan. After all, one of the lies was “Yes I cheated on you” and that’s some messed up stuff.
The word is that Schwartz considers the show to be about New York more than their specific high school, so when they graduate it will be about the same things it is now. Realistically, how often does the action revolve around the school? Not very…
