Pumpkin carving

I just carved a face into the face of my pumpkin. Pics will be available as soon as I remember to take a photo and put the memory stick into a computer. So, you may have to rely on others for pics of my pumpkin.

So much stuff to do, television to watch

This post was originally going to be about the CW’s Gossip Girl, but I really don’t feel like posting about it. I found the show entertaining, but I haven’t had a chance to watch the second episode, so I don’t have much to write about anyway. I didn’t watch the second episode because I am finding that I have way too much stuff to do. On my current to do list are:

  • laundry
  • dishes
  • clean out freezer
  • clean up office
  • work on friend’s computer
  • find/make myself dinner each night this week
  • watch a lot of saved TV shows

Cleaning house, again

I took some time off on Friday to clean the house more after three long weeks of work getting things prepped for the new year. The first thing I attacked was finding all of the stuff that used to reside in our old China cabinet. I was able to find all of the boxes of carefully wrapped glass, and I brought that down to the dining room. Chris and I put all of that stuff away Saturday during our second surge of cleaning.

Anniversary

Behind the Emerald CurtainYesterday Chris and I celebrated our third anniversary. I took the afternoon off to take her downtown to Behind the Emerald Curtain, a behind-the-scenes look at Wicked. We were able to take a close look at several costumes and masks, as well as find out a little more about the production’s and the theatre’s history.

After the tour, we headed to Scoozi! for a nice quiet dinner for two. Chris had the Gnocchi Bolognese and I had the Prosciutto and Onion Ravioli. Both dishes were quite delicious, and just the right portions, too. After dinner, the valet brought me the correct car this time, instead of a $50k upgrade, and we were off to check out the lake.

Unfortunately, there were a couple of things going on in Grant Park, so we couldn’t find any parking anywhere and just headed back out to the ‘burbs. We turned in early because we both had to be at work early this morning. We’re both looking forward to Saturday, when we actually get to see Wicked for the third time. Afterwards, we’ll be dining at 312 Chicago.

Accents

Don’t mind the ugly box below. I might have a chance to cleanup the code and style later.

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Midland

(”Midland” is not necessarily the same thing as “Midwest”) The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it’s a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn’t mean you’re from the Midland.

Personality Test Results

I’m not surprised by my results when I took a silly quiz to determine my accent. Technically, English is my second language; my first language is Tagalog. I learned English before I went to school by watching a lot of Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood (as an aside, read Fred Rogers’ entry in Wikipedia; it’s good). Between television and fear of being ostracized for having an accent, I learned to speak English in a very neutral accent. So, take the quiz and see from where your accent originates.

Cleaning house

I have moved into the virtual world to do some house cleaning. I just deleted my del.icio.us account and re-registered to clear out all of my old links. Of course, I exported the links that I had before doing this. I’m going to try to clean up the clutter that is my former tagging system. We’ll see how well that goes, and how long it takes me. Wish me luck!

Time off

I have been scheduling time off from work here and there during June, since it is the last chance I get to use up my vacation time for the last school year. With it, I have taken care of a few things around the house that I have wanted to do for the past few years.

As I posted earlier, over the past couple of weeks I have done a lot to clear out the junk in my office. Much of it was old magazines that had sat in the Uhaul boxes we used to move from the apartment. I’m sure it ticked off the recycling and refuse truck drivers to come up to our driveway to see the large piles of junk that would need to be hauled off.

The other day, Grant and Mel helped me to move the old dining room table into my office to act as my new desk. I shoved my old computer desk that we got from Chris’ grandparents in the corner until I can clear it off. Then I’m going to swap that desk for my really old computer desk, the one I had in college. That desk is a little bit smaller, so it should fit in between my new desk and the wall much better. It’s also a tad bit taller, at a height that will be much better for working on computers while standing.

Yesterday, I originally was going to take the entire day off, but I had to go into work in the morning to attend a meeting that was scheduled at the last minute. I still took the afternoon off, so I was able to just relax. Dinner at Barnaby’s was great, and it was all the better that we were able to use the gift certificate we won in a raffle at the Coakley autism fund raiser. Afterwards, Brad, Rich, Chris and I just hung out in the front yard with Dixie on her long leash.

Today, I’m taking a full day off. I have already worked out and had breakfast. Unfortunately, I missed McDonald’s switch over from breakfast to lunch by about ten minutes. I had to settle for a bagel and coffee at home. It’s probably healthier that way, so I guess it’s not too bad. I’ve been working on setting up my office some more. I’m clearing off the old desk, and putting various things in their place. This post is acting as a short break for me. However, this short break has now lasted roughly thirty minutes.

I’m going to get back to working on my office, but first, lunch :-)
